Luminaria volunteer Information

It is that time of year again. Luminaria is March 10th this year, only 38 days away!

If you would like to volunteer and have not yet submitted your volunteer information form this year, than please do so now so we can count you in. We would love to have you.

Since Luminaria will be starting at 7 pm and going till 1 am, we particularly need people to fill the later shifts, so please note if you are willing to work a later shift.

As we lock down the details, we will be sending you important updates.

We have some new ideas this year. Well lit Information signs with volunteers posted to help direct inquiring minds.

A new look for t-shirts, which you will receive free, if you volunteer.

More Food vendors, this year, so new tasty treats to try.

Volunteer Meeting March 3rd at HemisFair Park at 4pm for Information Volunteers and anyone else who wants to come and walk the park and find out where all the important stuff will be.

A Special Message from San Antonio Symphony

Announcing the 2012 Symphony PRO-AM!!

Saturday, February 25, 2012; 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm @ Trinity University'sLaurie Auditorium

Dust off that instrument case, put some rosin on your bow, get a new box of reeds, and oil those valves--it’s time to start practicing again for 2012 Symphony PRO-AM!

Apply nowto join the Symphony and Music Director Sebastian Lang-Lessing for a side-by-side rehearsal and performance featuring composer Franz Liszt's famous symphonic poem, Les Préludes. Or come just to listen and watch; general admission is FREE and open to the public! The rehearsal will take place February 25, 2012, from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm, followed by the performance at 7:30 pm.

HOW TO APPLY:

Participants must be age 25 or older, be able to read music and play an instrument that is part of the standard orchestra instrumentation.

All applicants must register online. Space is limited, so register early! The deadline for online registration will be Monday, February 6, 2012.

Applications will be confirmed by email. Further details will be sent to selected participants in the acceptance email.

Youth Orchestras of San Antonio Philharmonic presents

Beethoven and Orpheus at The Laurie Auditorium at Trinity University

Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 4:00 p.m.

YOSA's most advanced ensemble, the YOSA Philharmonic, presents its third concert in the 2011-2012 Gold Series, “Beethoven and Orpheus,” featuring Mexican pianist Abdiel Vázquez and conducted by YOSA’s Music Director Troy Peters. The performance, as a featured partner in the San Antonio Symphony’s Beethoven Festival, will be held at The Laurie Auditorium on Sunday, January 22nd, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. Tickets will be available for purchase in advance through Ticketmaster or by calling YOSA’s office at 210-737-0097. YOSA presents works inspired by the Greek myth of Orpheus, featuring Mexican pianist Abdiel Vázquez in Beethoven’s epic Fourth Piano Concerto. Abdiel Vázquez is presented in partnership with Instituto Cultural de Mexico.

Donald Braswell Producing A Major Music Event Benefitting Haven For Hope

Donald Braswell and his new three tenor trio, Gli Unici, are bringing their powerful new show to San Antonio on January 7. This will is a musical spectacular designed to appeal to many musical tastes and be captivatingly entertaining. All proceeds benefit Haven for Hope - the largest and most comprehensive transformation and care facility for the homeless in the US.

San Antonian, Donald Braswell is a musical genius who rocketed to fame in 2008 as a finalist on “America’s Got Talent”. Hundreds of school-aged children from the east side and the broader San Antonioarea will be entertained by Michael Cooper’s superb performance of humor and poignancy. Cooper, a one-man extravaganza features beautifully handcrafted masks, original stories of courage and wonder, stilt dancing and a physical repertoire that ranges from the madcap to the sublime. A former student of Etienne Decroux, the father modern French mime, Cooper will show everyday life common occurrences in his show. His credits include over 8,000 shows in theaters, schools and festivals around the world.

The Carver Youth Matinee Series is dedicated to bringing

exciting and stimulating performing arts into the lives

of young people in our community. All matinees are free

and while geared towards school-aged children, are open

To all Luminaria fans, as promised we keep you up to date with what is happening with Luminaria, and one of the most important events, is of course, the Call for Artists. If you are an artist, musician, or performer and are interested in applying continue reading. Otherwise feel free to please share this information with those that you think may be interested. But by all means, we hope to see you at Luminaria, San Antonio's Art Night, March 10, 2012.

Luminaria invites any artist, theatre group, dance group, musician, video artist, filmmaker, literary artist, performance poet, street performer, magician, architect, or interdisciplinary artist to apply to their open call. You may apply online on their "Application" page of the website. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact them at info@luminariasa.org or (210) 212-4999.

Completed forms should be submitted electronically no later than December 9, 2011. Supplementary materials (work samples etc.) required by discipline can be uploaded onto the website. You may also hand-deliver your materials to our office.Assistance with completion of the application or uploading help can be had by contacting the Luminaria offices at 210-212-4999 or info@luminariasa.org. FRALOS INVITES SAN ANTONIO TO A NIGHT OF OPERA, BENEFITTING THE SAN ANTONIO OPERA

Enjoy artfully crafted pizza under the stars while listening to the sounds of San Antonio’s Three Tenors.

SAN ANTONIO – Fralo’s would like to invite you to join them in supporting the San Antonio Opera. It’s one of the Alamo City’s most treasured performing arts organizations. Like many other opera companies in the nation, ticket sales account for only about one third of their total budget. In addition to producing live on-stage performances, our opera company also embraces its responsibility to educate and expose young audiences to the wonders of the opera.

This is why Fralo’s is proud to support the San Antonio Opera! Fralo’s is hosting a night of Pizza & Opera, this Saturday, October 22^nd, 2011. Cocktails start at 6:30 p.m.,and dinner is served at 7:00 p.m., when San Antonio’s Three Tenors start performing live under the oak trees at Fralo’s in Leon Springs, Texas. It’s all in an effort to help raise money for our local opera. “Frank and I have been long supporters of the San Antonio Opera.” Lori says that Fralo’s believes the San Antonio Opera is a cultural event that they would like to help stay in our wonderful city with this fundraiser.

One table of eight can be reserved for $600 and individual tickets are being sold for $75 each. That includes hors d'oeuvres, salad, pizza, dessert, wine with your meal, and an exclusive, once-in-a-life-time opera performance to remember!
