This one-hour lecture demonstration features the Guadalupe Dance Company presenting traditional dances, costumes and music of Mexico. The lively performance gives audiences the opportunity to interact with the dancers while emphasizing the cultural value of traditional Mexican dance. Audience members are invited to participate in a question and answer session, and will have the opportunity to join the dancers on stage. Join us at the newly renovated, historic Guadalupe Theater, on Fri., Sep. 17 at 1 p.m. for school groups, and a special community performance on Sat., Sep. 18 at 3 p.m. Both performances are free, but tickets are required. 1910: A Revolution Across Borders commemorates the 100th anniversary of the pivotal political conflict, which shaped our understanding of Mexico as a nation, and the cultural mix of South Texas. As the premier museum dedicated to South Texas heritage, the Witte will mine it's extensive collection to present photography and artifacts from the time period to illuminate the effect of this political crisis on the people of the region.

The William and Salomé Scanlan Foundation presents 1910: A Revolution Across Borders in honor of Colonel Pedro A. Chapa.
1910 is also generously supported by the Marcia and Otto Koehler Foundation, the G.A.C. Halff Foundation, the Nathalie and Gladys Dalkowitz Charitable Trust, and the City of San Antonio Office of Cultural Affairs.

Did you know insects have existed for more than 350 million years? The Witte Museum is being invaded this fall by Backyard Monsters: The World of Insects, giving visitors a chance to see what they have been stepping on. This exhibition features six gigantic robotic insects, world-class specimens of exotic insects and invertebrates, hands-on insect interactives and robo-bugs the visitor can control.

Don’t miss ants the size of your uncle or beetles the size of a Volvo! The robotic insects, some up to 96 times their original size, truly give visitors a bugs-eye-view of the world including battling Atlas Beetles that lunge toward each other in a daring duel, a Mexican Red-Knee Tarantula longer than a truck and a big and beautiful Monarch Butterfly with a 19-foot wingspan.

Crawl into the Witte this fall and get buggy. Endorsed by the American Entomological Society, Backyard Monsters is a unique view of the diverse insect world, from the poisonous and bizarre to the beautiful and fantastic.

There is a $3 surcharge in addition to museum general admission for Backyard Monsters.

Blue Starʼs ARTsmart program presents an exhibition and community workshop by local photographer Jennifer
Monaghan as part of our collaborative with the Julia Yates Semmes Public Library. On Saturday, September 25,
Jennifer will give a FREE community workshop to individuals, ages +12, interested in expanding their Photoshop
skills. Participants are invited to bring a camera and laptop if they wish to actively participate, but the
demonstration is open to anyone who wishes to observe. RSVPs are recommended, but not required, and can
